Welcome to the CatCave!

I am so glad you are here!

My name is Susanne, I am born German, a Brit in my heart and live and create in the middle of nowhere in West Flanders, Belgium.

A while ago my life ground to a halt when my body told me it was time to take a break. Burn out, they call it these days. As it turns out, it was about the best that could happen to me. Out of it came Cats and Creativtiy.

I have been a crazy cat lady for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Eastern Germany, there were always cats in and around my parents house in Luckenwalde.

Currently, Mr. Cats and Creativity and myself share our and garden seven cats and just as many chickens.

An accountant by day, I will transform into a poet, a painter, a baker, a chef or a gardner in my free time. Any kind of creativity that tickles my fancy. So welcome! Have a look around and drop me a note if you like!

Oh and by the way... as no one likes cat hair in their food, I put my foodblog here in accordance with current health and safety regulations...

Meet the cats

The current heacount (catcount?) is 7. One can never have too much cats. One can however have a way too small house...

  • Pistache - whose papers tell us she was baptised  Viola Of Loveangels. We call her Pita
  • Momo - 9 kilogram proud Norwegian Forrest Tomcat with a very tender heart. Most of the people that visit us do try to smuggle him out when they leave. Note: we do check bags!
  • Lyra - The Drama Queen of our bunch and known sock thief
  • Penny - sister of Rogue. She loves nothing better than laying in woodchips or amongst the hedges, long fur notwithstanding.
  • Rogue - Our clumsy beauty and sister of Penny
  • Amy - Aramis's sister. During Corona I started fostering, and Amy was one of five cats of our first litter. Two stayed with us. I did not repeat this keeping rate in following litters
  • Aramis The Second - Brother of Amy. When I picked them up at the shelter, it was his grey that sold him to me instantly

We cannot imagine a life without cats, neither myself, nor Mr. Cats & Creativity. I grew up with at least two to three cats in and around the house. Mr. Cats & Creativity shared his room for more than 20 years with Vlekkie.

We still remember fondly our feline friends that walked a bit of our way together with us, and who we have lost or had to let go.

  • Aramis The First - our "firstborn" - the first cat we had as a family, and our first big love
  • Toto - who came to us from the shelter in Oostend and I promised that we were just going there to "have a look around"
  • Tiger - who had decided to come live with us while we were on vacation - upon our return, that fact was settled
  • Loki - another roamer that figured it wasn't too bad here. Franky, he was an asshole towards all our other cats
  • HeShe - The beautiful tomcat born in the wild close to our first rental together. We could not leave him behind - his move to here was quite an adventure!
